 What My Friend Taught Me!

Unsurprisingly, some of the most common questions I am asked are about how to make money online. People want to know which product is going to make them a millionaire and let them retire in style.

The truth is that there is no such thing as a “best product” because while everyone’s situation and goals are different, the best way to make money online will vary from person-to-person. If you are just starting out then it may be better for you to focus on building your website traffic or find products with high commissions rather than getting too caught up in thinking about what might be the best opportunity for your skill set.

The most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing and to have something that works for you.

Back in December of 2008, I met Meng, one of my good friends. Over the last few years we have had some great conversations about starting an online business. Nevertheless, Meng has always been on the lookout for that dream product he could sell online with little or no effort by him.

I was reminded of that conversation when he contacted me this week and asked if I knew where he could find a “best product to sell online”. It occurred to me that although I had a number of products in mind as candidates for his analysis, they were not necessarily any better than the other products out there.

After about an hour of discussion, Meng made a decision. He would pick one product for his “Best Product to Sell Online” list and then he would research it in more detail to find out if there were flaws that could turn him off from it completely. He said he had found a couple of products that looked like they might be promising but had not researched them in-depth yet. I shared Meng's advice with my readers by including his words below:

What I really want to highlight is the importance of getting your hands dirty when you start something new that you are excited about. Most of the time I have noticed that it is people who are too hesitant about making a decision early on in the sales process that fail.

Other than that, I believe the most important thing is to get started and DO IT!

My friend Meng has made it clear that he wants to take more time to research this product before making his final decision. And he is probably right. Not Buyer’s Remorse, but instead a reluctance to make an expensive mistake when you are just getting started can often lead to failure. You can be sure Meng will be researching his selection-to-be with as much attention as possible over the next couple of weeks or so. I will be sure to share his final decision on my blog or in the comments section of this post.

For now I am going to keep nagging him until he decides what is the “best product” for him.

What My Friend Taught Me, Part 2

I was planning on posting a follow-up article a month later but Meng told me that he is not going to come back and tell us what he had decided after all. He has picked a product and is already working on building up his website traffic! You can read his article about how he did it here.

Conclusion

There is not really a “best product”. What works for you might not work for another person. I believe it is important to choose something that you are passionate about so that you will be willing to sacrifice the time and effort needed to make it work.
