Increasing Link Popularity
This post is all about how to increase the popularity of your website's links. There are many factors that can affect a link's popularity and the more of these that you manage to optimize, the better your chances of increasing it.
In this post, I'm going to cover
- What is Link Popularity?
- The factors affecting Link Popularity.
- How do you optimize these factors?
1) What is Link Popularity?
Link Popularity is calculated based on how often a page or site gets circulated in social media such as Facebook, Twitter or something similar and also how frequently it appears in search results (among other things).
The commonly used metrics to measure "link popularity" are as follows,
- The number of backlinks pointing to the page. This is measured in terms of the number of unique IPs that link back to it. So, if you have 10 different IPs link back to your site, but only 2 are unique and count for a total of 10 links. You will get a total of 8 links when measuring the link popularity by their count and not by their value (count). This is because the total value (number) doesn't really change what's a useful link or not.
- The percentage of backlinks at any point that are from different domains than yours.
