Five Scams You'll Want To Avoid

The internet is a beautiful place, full of wonders and the potential for greater things. It's also rife with scammers looking to take advantage of you. If you want to keep your assets and ensure that your money is as secure as possible, it’s important that you stay in the know about scams out there. Here are some popular ones that are on the rise right now, which we recommend you avoid!

Avoid Fake Scam Websites: If it looks too good to be true, it usually means that something has gone wrong. These websites will only offer higher payments or other incentives if an agent agrees to put your fake ID on hold for a certain amount of time after purchase. Stay away; there’s absolutely no reason to do business with them. These fake websites will also ask sellers to provide personally identifiable information, which opens them up to identity theft.

Be Wary of Accidental Scams: There are cases where the agent is the scammer, not a third party. For instance, they may take payments and never actually process your order for real IDs or licenses. This can result in you getting burned! If you suspect that something is amiss with a vendor or website, it’s best to walk away. If you’re in any doubt, don’t give out any personal information at all.

Scam Websites: The scammers often use fake sites to make it look like they are legitimate. They have phony websites that give the impression of being owned by a company or other business. Even the phone number that you call has been carefully chosen and may not lead to an actual person. If it's too good to be true, it's probably a scam.

Avoid Accident Scams: There are several ways for an accident scammer to get your personal information and then use it against you in a variety of ways. One way they do this is by pretending to be a law enforcement officer. They may have a fake badge, or just use your personal information under the guise of assisting you with "important" legal proceedings. Another method is to pose as insurance agents and get potential customers into a fake accident, then proceed to file false claims for compensation.

You can avoid most scams by doing some simple research and following basic security precautions. The internet certainly has some wonderful uses, but be sure that you’re not being exploited when seeking to make money.

I am weary of reports like this, because they do not provide any specifics about the scams that are out there. I have no idea what each scam is, and I am a victim of at least two of them (and probably more), so I know exactly how much to be wary of. They all sound interesting though, so I just hope that people won't fall for them!

Here is the best article I can find on the internet regarding this when it comes to fake IDs and licenses: http://www.idot.state.il.us/idot_directory/scams.htm

Stay safe out there!

How to Avoid Getting Scammed by Fake License Scams Here's a round-up of five scams (plus an extra bonus) involving fake licenses that you should know about here in Illinois. This can happen on eBay (we've seen it even in penny auctions), as well as on the actual driver's license licensing office.

Here is an excellent article about the following fake ID scams: http://www.idot.state.il.us/idot_directory/scams.htm

1. The IDS Cop (Cop Arrests You for Driving on Suspended License) This is an extremely common trick pulled by fake cops. They will often set it up to be like a real stop, trying to get you to pull over and park so you can talk about your (fake) license. They will then arrest you and your car gets towed away. An extra bonus here is that sometimes they will set up an underage drinking party, and if you show up, a bunch of cops come out and arrest everyone there for the fake crime that was set up! 2. Public Safety (Fake License Check/Fake Taxi) This is very similar to the "IDS Cop," but at least you can see them coming from a distance, and they will be in a vehicle that looks like an actual police car. They will approach you with what appears to be a legitimate check on your driver's license. They will say they saw something suspicious on the street, and ask you to come back to the station for questioning. If you go, more cops await you at the station. In some cases, they will follow you into a taxi and then arrest you when it is time to pay your fare! 3.
