Are you going to follow the advice in this article? Why or why not?

Advertisements from Different Countries
Part 1: Read the following advertisements from a number of different countries as a class. Discuss the differences and similarities between the products being advertised. How does culture influence how products are presented and sold to consumers? What aspects of these advertisements would be considered universal and what aspects are specific to the culture in which they were created? Part 2: After students have had sufficient time to analyze the advertisements, divide students into teams. Have each team create a mock advertisement. Ask the teams to present their advertisements in both English and the language of their country (see attached sheet). Part 3: Continue with part 2 and have each team share what they learned about how advertising in different countries is similar and different.

Part 4: Continue with part 2. In groups, discuss which country's advertisements are most difficult for your group to translate/adapt into English. What could be done to make them easier? Part 5: As a class, write responses on how you think advertising might change over time as technology and globalization continue to influence marketing strategies around the world.
