Bvlgari weird spelled an exceptional perfume
Bvlgari is a luxury house that has an amazingly weird-spelled name. It was founded in 1884 by brothers Sotirios and Georgios Bvlgari, and now ranks as a top international jewellery and perfume company. I have the great pleasure of reviewing their newest scent, called “Bvlgari Black”.
In a nutshell, it smells like light airy florals with hints of spice (think black pepper), mixed in with the perfect amount of musk to balance out the other scents without being too overbearing. It's not too strong or overpowering, but it lasts for hours on your skin after one spritz. If you like light, airy florals with a touch of spice, but are on the fence about spending $200 on it, I highly recommend Bvlgari Black. I've been pleasantly surprised by it so far!

Founded in 1884, Bvlgari is the oldest Italian luxury brand. The Bvlgari brand is recognizable thanks to its interlocking gold Bs and to the fact that it has always been family-run, in spite of being bought by Trafigura Beheer in 2010. Headquartered in Milan, Italy, and with boutiques around the world, Bvlgari was founded by a Greek goldsmith named Sotirios Voulgaris with his brother, Georgios Voulgaris. The brand started out making small objects in 1884 but has since moved on to making jewelry and watches. Aside from being the oldest Italian luxury brand today, it is also one of only a handful that has retained complete autonomy over its entire history.
The brand is characterized by its extreme attention to detail. While most brands would use gold of a uniform color, Bvlgari incorporates naturally-occurring gold colors. This gives each piece its own unique character. They also use colored sapphires, rubies and emeralds that come in many natural hues that are often replicated with dyed stones. Thus, every piece is unique and cannot be replicated.
Originally from Greece, the Voulgaris brothers moved to Rome where they worked for Carl Faberge before moving to Milan in 1884. Because of their Greek origin, the brand focused strongly on Greek design which was prevalent during the turn-of-the century period.
Alessandro is the undisputed master of Bvlgari perfumes. He has worked on most of the dozen or so Bvlgari scents that have been created over the past century. He currently serves as the creative director for all Bvlgari scents. In 1994, he founded his own perfume company named Aedes de Venustas that would go on to design his debut scent, Secret Compartment, which was released in 2000.
The house's current designer is Maria Grazia Chiuri and she has been working with Alessandro since 1998 when she joined him as a co-designer for Bvlgari Parfums (BV1).
Conclusion
Bvlgari Black is a nice, light floral, very well-balanced, with a hint of spice. It's not too strong or overpowering, and I really love how well it balances out the other scents without being too overbearing. It's definitely not for everyone - you will most likely NOT like it if you are looking for a heavy cologne experience - but if you are looking for something that is light, but still has substance, then I recommend trying Bvlgari Black. You will most likely enjoy this perfume!
Bvlgari is the oldest luxury brand in Italy. The name itself is Italian since it means "wolf-lion" in Greek.
