2006 Summer Jewelry Fashion Trend Quick Report

This summer, jewelers have been trying to stay on top of the hottest jewelry trend which was going around in 2006 and then again in 2012. They've created different types of pieces like headpieces, earrings, necklaces and more that will make you stand out this summer. This trend is back in a whole new form with new versions for women and men.

This blog post is about two different types of jewelry trends that have been popular over the span of ten years-one was popular in 2006 and one was popular in 2012-and the differences between the two trends. While both of these trends were short-lived, they were very important to the jewelry market.
"Although these two trends have come and gone, they still provide designers and jewelers with a valuable lesson in the history of fashion," says Courtney R. Briones, a designer at Artistry Jewelry Design & Alterations. "The challenge in designing jewelry is to create something 'new' in the established context of the trend."
The "S" shaped necklaces made during this time were fashionable for a few years because they appealed to people's desire for modular accessories that were easy to wear as well as easily stackable or mix and match with other pieces of jewelry. People could also wear the "S" shaped necklaces with other types of jewelry pieces as well.
The popularity of these jewelry trends may not have been sustained for long periods of time, but they were successful in their own ways and still are. These trends helped to establish what would be popular in fashion circles for the following decade.
In 2006, a few designers helped to design luxury pieces that included chains like the "S" shape on them. The best part about these chains was that it was easy to stack, mix and match different chains together on ones' wrists instead of collecting lots of different necklaces. This trend eventually popped up again in 2012 starting with designer Madeline Fontanrose.
"[The "S" Trend] was a bit of a fad, but it was also a fun trend," says Briones. "It helped to establish the idea of short-lived fashion trends." The author of the book Designing the jewelry trend 2013: Trends and Design for Today's Jewelry Market says that this style is still fashionable to this day because it is simple and easy to wear.
The other jewelry trend that was popular in 2006 and 2012 is the bracelet. These bracelets were both inspired by the cat eyes and dainty style that made them very popular. The bracelets started out as being dainty and small, but they evolved into a more fashion-forward look that was geared towards younger women who were looking for an accessory that was not only fashionable, but also durable.
"[The bracelet] is obviously a very versatile piece," says Briones, "but it's also a very timeless piece. It can be worn with so many different types of clothing looks." Bracelets are still very trendy because they can be worn on many different occasions-even if the occasion is something other than jewelry related.

Conclusion

In 2006, a few designers helped to design luxury pieces that included chains like the "S" shape on them. The best part about these chains was that it was easy to stack, mix and match different chains together on ones' wrists instead of collecting lots of different necklaces. This trend eventually popped up again in 2012 starting with designer Madeline Fontanrose.
The jewelry trend in 2012 is linked back to the jewelry trend in 2006 because both trends included the use of cat eyes and dainty-looking accessories. In 2012, the bracelets started off as being small and dainty until they eventually evolved into bracelets that were more worn by younger people who were looking for fashionable things that they could wear every day.
