10 Critical Press Release Writing Tips

What do we all need to know about press releases? Plenty, but I'm going to focus on 10 critical points that are needed for any good release.

1.Press releases are used by businesses and organizations to distribute information to the media and their audiences.
2.Press releases can be a marketing tool or a way of publicizing an event or new product launch.
3.A well-written press release will give journalists what they need to produce a story on your topic with authority, credibility, accuracy, and honesty—in other words, the journalist is under no obligation to write the story unless they can get it from your release!
4.Pitches, on the other hand, are sales documents that require a longer-term marketing strategy.
5.But they can still be a useful communication tool and are often sent to a journalist under embargo.
6.Be careful with your headline because it is what will grab the attention of readers or viewers first!
7.Journalists will always follow their instincts before they follow an amount of text—and so should you when sending out your release to publishers. 8.Keep it short and snappy so journalists don't have to hunt for what they need to know about your product or service to write their story! 9.Check your release for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors before you send it out to journalists. 10.Get a follow-up email reminder after your release is sent so you can make sure the journalist received it and is going to take action on it.

Subject: Press Release – 10 Critical Press Release Writing Tips
Dear Publisher, Every business is in the business of making sales and that's where press releases are for.  An effective press release can help you acquire new customers and win back old ones.  These are just a few tips to consider when creating and writing a press release to increase sales.  @ http://www.pr-today.com/blog/10-critical-press-release-writing-tips/123736/ [ARTICLE START]
1. The lead is the most important part of your press release. It's the first thing a journalist will read, so it needs to pack a punch and get straight to the point. 2. Write for a general audience—don't use industry terms or jargon, and avoid acronyms unless you are sure people outside of your industry will understand them. 3. Just like with any other type of content, make sure you get your facts straight before publishing your press release! 4. Keep it short so journalists don't need to hunt around for information they need to write their stories 5. Aim for 3-4 sentences in the body of your release 6. Make sure you know who you are writing to and what their target audience is so you tailor your language in the right way for that specific audience. 7. Follow up with potential customers after your release is sent out—it's important to make sure they receive it and are going to take action on it. 8. Buzzwords and corporate speak do nothing but irritate readers, so avoid them at all costs! 9. Don't just send out a press release and then sit back expecting journalists to write stories about it because that's not how it works—you need to work at getting press coverage! 10. Finally, always include a link to your website in the body of your press release!  @ http://www.pr-today.com/blog/10-critical-press-release-writing-tips/123736/
