Is It Possible To Make A Living From HYIPs?
What is a HYIP?
HYIP stands for "High Yield Investment Program" and are generally seen as scam opportunities. I will go into this more in the article, but there are some people who make a living from them. People usually don't make a lot of money from these types of sites though. Usually it's just pocket change that comes and goes quickly.
What should I do if one presents itself to me?
I would recommend not investing in HYIPs, but if you're interested in learning more about them or you're intrigued by the idea then you can search the web for reviews about specific programs on HYIP monitors like hyipreviews.com and moneymakergroup.com.
What are the risks?
The risks with any investment is that it could just be a scam. There are plenty of legitimate opportunities to make money online though, so you should avoid HYIPs and focus on that instead. The biggest risk is that there's no way for you to get your money back if the company folds or becomes "too good to be true".
You can go through the industry as a whole for information about that possibility, but I'll try to give an overview here because it's not discussed much in-depth elsewhere online.
What happens if a HYIP becomes "too good to be true"?
This essentially means that the return on investment is so high that it's probably not possible for the company to be able to continue paying it. This rarely happens though. If you do decide to deposit money into a HYIP and it starts paying out ridiculous amounts of money then cancel your payment immediately and contact the company. You should do this as soon as you notice they're giving too much money or they will usually stop paying out such high returns once enough people have deposited and started making withdrawals.
What will I learn here?
This will be an introduction to HYIPs. It's not a complete guide and it won't tell you if they're "good or bad" for you in general. It's more of an introduction to the idea. The goal is to give you a basic understanding of what these sites are and how they operate so that you can make smarter decisions regarding them.
In this article I'll answer any common questions about these types of sites, share my experiences during my ventures into that world, and explain how some people have made money from them though at the bottom line it comes down to risk vs reward as always.
What are the benefits?
No one will argue that the returns aren't high on HYIPs: The risk is relatively low, the returns are higher than what you would get from other safe investments and of course you can make a living from them (if you do it right). There are a lot of people who have "made it big time" by investing in these types of sites, so if you're determined then it's a possible way to make money online.
I personally don't agree with this type of approach because I think there are better ways to make money online, but some people have legitimately been able to "pull it off".
How does it work?
There are really two different types of HYIP. There are "Short Term" and "Long Term". The majority of HYIPs I've reviewed on this site have been classified as "Long Term", so I'll use that as my example. A typical long term HYIP has a minimum deposit of $10 and pays a set percentage weekly for whatever time period you choose: the longer your time period the more money you can make. The trick is how long will the company be able to pay that percentage before it folds?
The company makes its money by getting people to deposit their money into the program and in exchange they get paid interest over time or an instant return. This is done by giving out an incredible ROI and then having the company pay all their money back quickly.
The problem is that it's hard to keep up with your ROI. There are many delays and some people don't even get paid what's promised. The reason for this is because some companies have been shut down after using fake or stolen credit cards to get people to deposit money into their accounts. If a few of these happen, then you can see the value of the investment plummet because there won't be enough money coming in to support that ROI and the company will fold.
Sometimes you'll see an incredible return out of the blue before they suddenly stop paying you anything for months at a time. This is often because they've been seized by the authorities and it's a lot harder to get your money back from them. You can find out if this has happened to your chosen site through HYIP monitors.
These types of companies are fraudulent in nature, so you should treat this as a general rule: If you're not getting paid what was promised, then simply withdraw your money immediately and forget about that company and never deposit into it again.
What is involved with running one?
The best part of creating my own HYIP monitor website is that I can answer this question precisely: I created my site to help people make better decisions regarding these types of sites.
There is a lot involved with running one and you need to be up-to-date on everything in the industry. You can start off by spending 10 hours reading reviews and forums, but once you're running your own site you'll be spending much more time than that.
My blog takes up much of my time, but I run it in addition to my other sites so that also saves me a lot of time compared to someone who has just one site.
To get started though it will take some fairly basic coding knowledge so that you know how to update your website when credit card processors or other payment methods go down and you can't get your money from the users who have been posting on your site.
It will take some preparation as well: If you're running a Long Term HYIP then you need to have your site up for months at a time. If it comes down and goes away for 2 days, then that's going to make a huge impact on your revenue.
You'll need to keep the site fresh with high-quality content and images to keep your visitors coming back for more, but any basic knowledge of HTML will help here. I suggest learning some HTML before you even start though as the minimum requirements for running a Long Term HYIP are very high. You can find tutorials online for free if you want though.
Conclusion
I believe there are better alternatives to HYIPs that are more profitable and less risky. However, if you're already familiar with the risks involved then they might be a good option if you find a good one. There are also some people who have made THOUSANDS of dollars investing in them, so if it's your kind of thing then go for it. Just make sure to read my reviews before making any decisions!
