Top Network Marketing Company -is it a serious business?
It's been a while since we last talked about MLM and for those of you new to the blog, let me give you a quick rundown of what this means. MLM is short for Multi-Level Marketing. Rather than just being your average salesman trying to land a sale, in an MLM business, you are also in charge of recruiting new people into the company!
Depending on how good you are at recruiting and selling, your residual income can be anything from "meh" to life changing. Not every MLM business is the same. Some are more focused on recruiting than others and also some are more focused on selling their products than others.
In this article I'm going to be discussing a company that was generous enough to send me a gift box of samples last year. The company is called It Works! and they are a network marketing company that focuses on skin care. I'll be reviewing how the products work, my experiences with the company and the company's compensation plan.
It's still hard for me to review these products. I'm big enough that I can't just say "go try them" and leave it at that. It's always better for people to try before they buy. The more you know about something, the more likely you are to know whether you really like it or not.
I've tried using It Works! Skin Care in the past and while they have worked relatively well, I haven't had much success with them over the long term (a month or so). Using It Works! again recently I was able to get through a good month of use. My skin looked good, no major breakouts but also no major improvements either. I probably wouldn't buy them again but I don't think they offer anything that can't already be found in a much more expensive branded product.
There are several different products which are made by It Works! Skin Care and the products range from face care to body care to hair care. The products aren't cheap, I've seen some of the higher end products go for around $100 each.
What sets It Works! Products apart from all the other skincare products on the market is that they contain 3 ingredients: Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Coenzyme Q10 and Glucosamine . These are supposed to make it easier on your skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and increase collagen production.
So how do the products work? To start with, It Works! only sells a couple of different products. There is a cream for face, for hair and for body. The main ingredients in these products are Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Coenzyme Q10 and Glucosamine . There is also a shampoo which contains Panax Ginseng Powder however I personally didn't feel that this product improved my hair at all (it felt dryer than normal shampoo but that's not necessarily a bad thing).
It's certainly not cheap to buy all these ingredients separately. You'll be spending around $100-180 a month to get the full It Works! products! You can buy all the ingredients however in a box for about $99. The box comes with 3 tubs of face cream, 3 tubs of hair care, 2 tubs of body cream, 2 skin toners and 2 facial cleansers.
It's important to note that all the It Works! products contain Ginseng again. Ginseng doesn't play an important role in the formulation process neither does it benefit your skin in any way. The name "ginseng" was just used to trick consumers into thinking that these products have ginseng benefits.
How did the products work? They worked well enough that they didn't do anything bad to my skin. They didn't cause major flare ups or horrible breakouts. However, my skin is pretty sensitive and I ended up with a few breakouts (not terribly bad but noticeable). The good news is that I found no scarring from using the products but it's likely it just added to any existing scars on my face (it could have been worse).
Overall, the products did nothing special. They worked fairly well but they weren't great nor were they awful either. There wasn't anything in them that made me feel like I had figured out the fountain of youth or anything like that. The products worked well enough but I found them to be overpriced and lacking in any real convincing benefits.
However, there is one thing that I was impressed by with the It Works! line of products and that is how well they smell. I've been using a lot of skincare products lately and many of them have smelled bad enough to make me want to vomit or faint. Some smell so bad they leave a lingering smell on your skin that makes you feel like you need to take a shower even though you just washed your face.
It Works! doesn't do this. The smell isn't overpowering but it's strong enough so that it leaves your skin smelling pleasant even when applied at night before bedtime.
How do you sell It Works! products? You go out and you sell them! The way you are supposed to do this is by selling a product package that comes with a Skin Wrap. This requires you to become a distributor and the product packages that are available range from $99 to $499.
The $99 package includes the 3 tubs of face cream, 3 tubs of hair care, 2 tubs of body cream, 2 skin toners and 2 facial cleansers (these products are added every month or so and don't all exist at once). The $199 package adds in 1 bottle of their Face and Body Applicator. Finally, the $499 package adds in 1 bottle of Defining Gel. These products are not included in any monthly packages.
You can also buy the products for about $59-$79 per bottle. There are different sizes of the products and I'm not sure what the smallest size is, but you can buy just a 5ml bottle for $49 while the large 8ml size is going to run you $98 (there are larger sizes too).
The It Works! Skin Care line is made by Tana's Naturals and according to their website, they are "one of New York's leading health-care providers". This makes it look like they have a pretty good background in selling skincare products.
Conclusion
All in all, I don't think that the It Works! Skin Care line is very good. The products aren't cheap, the ingredients aren't anything special nor is there any real proof that they do what they claim to do.
However, I think that the packaging and marketing are done quite well. They make you feel like a goddess or something (maybe this was just me). It's hard not to want to want to buy something when someone tells you how good it is for you (although it's easy if you use common sense).
The basic idea behind these products is fine. I don't see anything wrong with trying a product before you buy it.
