The Importance of Body Language During a Job Interview
There are many ways to ace a job interview, but body language is unquestionably the most vital. Each time you shake hands with your interviewer and make eye contact, you are displaying confidence and sincerity. Before going into the interview, practice maintaining your composure in uncomfortable situations. For example, sit up straight while drinking coffee or eating lunch alone at a restaurant, or walk confidently on an escalator as it goes down instead of standing aside for people to get off first. Standing tall and square when sitting will indicate that you are engaged in conversation instead of being a shy wallflower waiting for it all to end!
Furthermore, try not to fidget or make random gestures with your hands like pushing invisible hair out of face. When you enter the interview room, sit down and calmly wait for the interviewer to begin the session. Don't slouch; this gives off an impression that you are bored and uninterested in the position. When sitting down, make sure that both feet are placed firmly on the floor and your hands lightly clasped on top of your legs or eyes focused, not downcast.
Make no mistake about it; body language is a vital method of communication. Whether you're stumbling through a job interview or presenting a business proposal to a potential client, it's key to be both confident and relaxed in order to ensure their cooperation and trust.
