Recognition By The Happy Wanderer
Many people aspire to be recognized for their talents and achievements, but sadly a significant number of artists are not able to enjoy the fruits of their labor and talent. If you have been left without these benefits then it may be time for you to consider how to capitalize on your talents, as opposed to working in an office job that doesn't utilize your skill set.
The following article provides some tips on how you can use what you already have in terms of talent, ideas and creativity. These suggestions are rooted in the idea that with enough perseverance there will always be rewards. If you have ideas that you feel can bring value to the world, then having them put in an accessible format will allow others to benefit from your ideas.
Perhaps there may be a new idea or solution that is unique to your personality. In this case, you must be ready to have your idea shared with the world, and not just for your own benefit. This is more of an ownership issue than one of recognition, but it does help when you are presented with opportunities from other people.
Finally, keep in mind that recognition is a personal matter and there is no formula for how and when it should happen. It all depends on what you want out of life and what makes sense for you given your situation.
The following are some of the tactics that you can use to secure recognition for your achievements and talents.
Publication: If you have a new idea or solution, do not wait until it's perfect before sharing it with the world. This can be incredibly valuable for your career, but especially for your life as well. The more people who see what you have to offer, the more opportunities will arise. If you can get a few leaders in any industry to like your ideas, then this could lead to sudden wealth or fame just by being able to put them into action. Endorsement: You may want to consider selling your endorsement to products that relate to your area of interest or craft. This could be a way for you to get exposure and create a living based on your talents. Demonstration: If you have a talent that should be recognized, consider putting it into action and demonstrating it to others. Having a presentation about what you do is better than just telling them about it. It is also another way for others to appreciate the value of your ideas and perhaps find solutions themselves. Workshops: Most people will not be interested in learning the skills of someone else unless they are specifically interested in that skill set or type of work. If you have a new idea, put on a workshop and teach others what you have to offer. This is a way for you to give something back to the world that has helped you so much, and could help others as well. Professional development: Find ways to get feedback in areas of your talents or skills that are not related. If there are more people who can help critique or noodle around with ideas, then this will take away some of the pressure on creating something perfect in the first place. There is no formula for how this will go, but it can lead to getting recognition by other means.
It all depends on how much time and effort you want to put into recognition and how much success you want out of it. If you have been able to make your way in the world and are uncomfortable with letting others benefit from your talent, then it might be time to change your life and recognize what you have accomplished. It is never too late to get recognition for something you have done.

A new study from the University of Minnesota is the first to define a high level of self awareness in a person with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Lead researcher Ali Miller explains that "This is one of the first studies to investigate not only how self awareness might increase with ASD diagnosis later in life but also what impact such heightened awareness has on social and cognitive abilities. These findings challenge the idea that people with ASD do not experience self awareness." The study took a group of 42 adults age 21-55 with ASD, of which 33 have an intellectual disability and 13 have an ASD that is classified in milder form. The participants were individually interviewed and measured on their level of self awareness. The majority of the participants scored above average on their interviews, indicating a high level of "autistic traits." However, when Miller looked at how well this self awareness correlated with language comprehension, she found the opposite. She explains, "With regard to language ability and social interactions, participants with high levels [of self-awareness] actually performed better than controls. Their language comprehension actually improved relative to control participants who showed no change. Also, their ASD severity—measured by social deficits, repetitive behavior, and restricted interests–was lower than that of participants with lower levels of self-awareness." She continues to say that "These results are contrary to what we expected and show that superior self-awareness is not a double-edged sword that can increase both positive and negative outcomes. It seems to be doing more good than harm," and that "We were able to observe some unexpected benefits of heightened awareness in terms of reduced repetitive behaviors and less depression." The research was also able to find two other indicators for high levels of self awareness. The first being a higher level of intellect (IQ), and the second being executive functioning skills.
Conclusion The researchers found that the participants who scored high had a high IQ and were good at controlling their behavior, which again is contrary to what the researchers thought they would find. They also found that there was no correlation between self awareness and language comprehension, but they did find a correlation between self awareness and executive functioning skills such as planning and organization. This study is the first of its kind, so any other data may be used to inform future studies. As families begin to notice signs of ASD in their child, more research will come out showing higher levels of signs for high self awareness in children with ASD.
