What Is Customer Acquisition?
Customer acquisition is the process of attracting new paying customers to a business. There are multiple ways to do this, but for our purposes here we'll be writing about 3 methods:
Selling to customers through online marketing, direct sales, and sales calls. Making website content that is engaging, useful and informative. Finding relevant articles and blog posts related to your products or services that you can use to engage with customers in the form of email campaigns.
Now let's look at each of these in turn!
1. Selling to Customers Through Online Marketing: This is the most basic way you can attract new customers for your business. There are two main types of online marketing that you can use to sell your business:
Search Engine Marketing - This is a strategy in which you use keywords on your website to earn as many relevant searches as possible. SEO is an advanced topic, and we won't be covering it in this article.

Pay Per Click Marketing - When people advertise on a search engine like Google or Yahoo, they are paying for every click through their advertisement. This is what Pay Per Click Marketing is. It's similar to SEO, but it has a slightly different focus. While SEO focuses on search engine optimization and the relevancy of your website, Pay Per Click marketing focuses on driving traffic to your website and getting them to view it.
In addition to organic search rankings for specific keywords, there are other ways to get results for your business in Google searches. You can use display ads or paid ads specifically targeted at individuals looking for what you have to offer. You can also use these ads as a form of customer acquisition with potential customers looking at these products/services based on keywords you have used in your ads.
2. Making Website Content that is Engaging, Useful and Informative: Once you have targeted keywords and a search engine marketing strategy in place, then it's time to make some relevant content. Things like blog posts and emails will be useful to potential customers, providing them with information about your business that they will find useful as well as engaging.
We've written extensively about how to write great blog posts in the past on our blog, so I won't go into it here. Instead, I'm going to teach you how to use email marketing to send out custom communications to specific customers/prospects.
3. Finding Articles & Blog Posts Related to Your Business That You Can Use as Customer Acquisition: This is the final step in our customer acquisition process that we're going to be focusing on here.
It's possible that you will already have a lot of content on your website related to your business or products. You'll want this content available for potential customers so they can find it when they are ready. There are a number of ways you can do this with your content. Here are some of our suggestions:
Use a tool like BuzzSumo to help you identify the most popular social media posts related to your business and/or products. This will give you even more opportunities to attract customers!
Use Google Alerts to find relevant keywords, phrases or potential customers that frequently show up in search results related to your business. You can later use these tools to send targeted emails out to individuals who have shown interest in these topics based on the keywords in your email ads. (You can also use this technique for SEO as well).
Conclusion
It's possible you won't have much content on your website right now, but chances are you will will start to build up a large repository at some point in the future. There is a great amount of value that comes from having good content on your site. Customers will view it, bookmark it, and possibly share it by linking to it or commenting on it.
Here are 2 main reasons why you should use customer acquisition as part of your marketing strategy:
You will find more customers! You won't be investing any money in Google AdWords or other PPC ads. Instead, you'll be focusing your marketing efforts directly on the people interested in what you're selling.
