Greater Conversion -- Three Things Everyone Should Do to Get More Sales
Conversion is the basis of any successful business. It's a numbers game and your conversion rates are directly related to increasing sales and profits. I know there are many systems out there that promise 97% conversions, but it doesn't really matter because you can't trust them. You have to do the work yourself, and this article shares three simple things that anyone can start doing right now to substantially increase their conversion rates and get more sales.
First of all, let me start with a little intro. I'm a professional Growth Marketer, which means I help companies build traffic and increase their sales through building relationships with their target audience. I've done over 300 growth marketing projects in my career, and these are the three most important things that I've discovered.
I used to use ads as the main engine for growth. After adding up everything from Facebook ads to Google Adwords, I would spend about $4-5,000 per month (yes this was for my personal projects). But a couple years ago I realized that if I could generate more organic leads for free instead of paying for them through ads then why wouldn't I? This can potentially save me thousands per month.
So I started implementing this strategy. And advertisers gonna advertise right? They're going to keep advertising! So I still use ads, but it's only in the "small and medium" leagues now. The biggest leagues don't respond to ads, they respond to real relationships. So I started focusing on building real relationships with my target audience.
So here is the big difference between what most companies do, and what we do. I'm going to show you how to create a better product, then how to market that product, and finally how to sell that product. This is the easy way!
Successful people really don't like talking about this, but most of the time it comes down to luck. Don't get me wrong, there are things you can do but it's usually just pure luck. Let me give you an example. One of my favorite YouTube channels is Epic Meal Time . I love this channel! If you haven't watched it, check it out.
So one day I came across a video of them preparing ramen. While I'm actually obsessed with ramen and I've tried every brand out there, this is the best one so far. Here's the thing- they don't use this brand specifically. And in that video they talk about how they got the product from a "friend." But we don't just go around strangers asking for food products! Most people are too afraid to ask their friends for gifts- why? They don't want to be judged. So how are you supposed to build a business when people are afraid of putting themselves out there?
It turns out that the free market works! Put your product in front of the right people, and they'll buy it. This is something that most entrepreneurs do not understand. They spend months creating their product and then they spend thousands to get it out there, thinking there is no other way.
Is it possible to create a great product without going through this exact process? Absolutely! But let's be honest- most people aren't going to go through this exact process, have a little patience! The only reason I'm sharing this with you is because I want you to see your sales go up and make more money. So here are the three main things you need to understand:
1) Make a better product.
2) Market your product.
3) Sell your product.
You might be thinking "Drew, don't you think it's more complicated than that?" Maybe, but if you want to keep it simple I'm going to share a secret with you:
Most companies suck at all three! Why? Because they spend 50% of their time on #2 when they should spend 50% of their time on #1 and 50% of their time on #3.
So I'm going to start from the beginning and explain each step to you.
1) The best products are the ones that will sell.
When you build your first product, you should be focused on something that makes sense for your audience. For example, do you want a product that helps you sleep better? Or maybe help with improving your dating life? A lot of people think building an app is easy, but it's actually very hard. You have to think about who your audience is and then market it accordingly.
There are too many people who think that they can just throw a product out there and people will buy. Most of the time, no one buys. You have to give people a reason to buy, it's as simple as that. This is why you should think about your audience when creating your first product.
Here's another example- I wanted to create the perfect selfie stick for GoPro Hero4 cameras. It would cost about $20 with shipping, but it was worth it! It was the best selfie stick you could find on the market (or at least from all the reviews I read). Although I haven't used it personally, it got a lot of great reviews from customers.
When you're thinking about your first product, you should think about these three things:
Know the audience: What do they want?
What is the competition like? Are there already similar products? How are they doing with their marketing and sales?
This helps me decide on which product to create: Will I need to create a lot of this product/shortcuts in order to be successful (1)? Or do I have ideas that are better than the products available (2)? Lastly, what is something I can add to my existing business that will make it better (3)?
2) Market your new product.
The first thing you need to do is to create a landing page for your product. A landing page is a place where people can go to learn about your product (or service) and purchase it.
When you create a landing page, you need to write a headline that will catch people's attention. This means putting yourself in your customer's shoes and asking yourself "What would make me want to read this?" You want them to read everything on the page, so use effective messaging that will help them understand what they are getting. To really make the most out of your copy, show benefits instead of features!
Here is an example:
This might be an overused example, but look at their messaging.
