 Business Funding Sources

A lot of people get stuck in their business because they don't know where to find good funding. What should you do? First, determine what type of project is best suited for your particular skill set and interests. Then learn more about several sources of financing that might be right for you, so that you can figure out which area you need help with the most.

One source to consider might be banks who provide loans at competitive rates. For example, if your interest is in small-business lending, then it would make sense to start talking to bank lenders who will provide significant financial support without requiring collateral and asking unfavorable interest rates as standard terms.

The Small Business Administration is another good place to start, since they provide loans that are tailored to specific business needs. For example, you might be able to get assistance with marketing projects if you open a bakery. You could also investigate the possibility of getting secured loans if your car or home is worth enough to secure an amount equal to the loan you need. Keep in mind, though, that these loans require higher interest rates than some other forms of financing.

There are also several private sources of financing that can assist with many different aspects of running a business. Banks will often provide financing for equipment leasing and developing prototypes. Private sources of financing might also be able to help in the event that you run into financial troubles.

If you are interested in a specific area, or have a particular business plan, then it would be a good idea to contact some of the professionals who deal with businesses who also want financing. For example, someone who specializes in small-business lending should be able to find ways your venture will be successful and how much money you can qualify for even if your business idea is not new.

The number one reason why most people fail their business ventures is because they do not know where to look for the many different forms of capital available to them. This is why it's a good idea to contact a wide range of agencies and companies, so that you can put together the best possible financing package possible.

The more options you consider, the easier it will be to create an investment plan that will get you up and running in no time. Poor planning is the greatest obstacle to success, but if you have some extra time and money, then you should be able to find ways of getting great financing for your dream business or project.

Miniature art collectibles firm Pieminister said that it is considering taking on debt to keep its doors open.
According to the firm, it is exploring the possibility of taking out a short-term loan to secure the £3m needed over the next 18 months. It is also considering offering an equity stake to a partner.
"This would offer an exciting new investment opportunity for investors who wish to participate in our growth," said Paul Davis, chief executive of Pieminister. "In a situation like this, we could offer stock at 5p or whatever we earnt as a going concern for three years. This would give investors a stake in the business's success over the next three years."
Pieminister has been selling products online that simulate popular food items such as cupcakes, doughnuts and ice cream since it was set up in 2008. The company, which employs seven people, said that it had suffered a number of setbacks in the past few months that have impacted its business.
"Our strategy has always been to grow with demand," added Davis. "That is why we only supply to customers who place large orders and why we expect this demand to continue."
The company has been hit by a series of setbacks including the loss of some of its main distributors and increased competition from other online merchants. It is also losing money on each order it sends out.
In a report published earlier this month, Bisnode said that Pieminister had a significant share of the market for miniature food products, with one in five orders being for the company's range of goods. Pieminister said that it expects the worst of its current problems to be over by September.
Pembrokeshire-based Pieminister employs seven people and has shipped more than 4 million items across Britain at a rate of around 100,000 items every month. The firm says that cannibalised sales from other online retailers accounted for more than 50pc of its turnover last year.
"Online retailers will cannibalise each others' sales and the larger players, like Amazon and eBay, will take the lion's share," said Davis. "But the market is growing and we are willing to hold our ground."
TAFKA Films has been in contact with Black Cat Films regarding a distribution deal for their independently produced film 'The List'.
Their comedy drama film starring Mark Dymond and Sally Phillips as two couples in a West Country pub was released to much critical acclaim in 2009. TAFKA founder Wilf Raymond said that he had been impressed by 'The List' from the moment he had first seen it.
"We have been tracking the film for quite some time now," said Raymond. "It is a great film with a universal appeal that would be excellent to have as part of our catalogue."
'The List' is produced by Black Cat Films, which was founded by Phillips and her husband Matthew Vaughan. They are also responsible for such as 'The Inbetweeners Movie', 'Saving Grace', 'Happiness' and 'The Girl in the Cafe'. The firm operates out of Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and has strong ties to Universal Pictures, with their most recent collaboration being the upcoming 'Kick-Ass 2'.
"I was so pleased when I first saw 'The List'," added Raymond. "I had enjoyed Wil and Sally's previous collaborations, but this film completely blew them out of the water. We are so eager to get involved with the distribution of this film."
"The List" was first released in 2009 and has since been screened at several major UK independent cinemas, including The Vue in London's Marble Arch and The Ritzy Cinema in Brixton. It is due to be screened in Sheffield and Newport on 12 August.
