Beste Restaurants in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is a city with a vibrant food culture. There are so many restaurants that it can take months to compile a comprehensive list of the best ones. You might think that because Tel Aviv is the largest city in Israel, finding the best restaurants would be easy. But Tel's vast population means there are just as many bad restaurants as good ones, so we had to narrow down our list to only include places where you're guaranteed an excellent meal and lively atmosphere.
The best way to find a new restaurant is to look it up on the internet – or ask your friends. But this isn't always easy, as not everybody shares the same tastes. If you don't like something and you can't find a good substitute, it's a big deal. That's why we've made this list of Tel Aviv's best restaurants at the end of each month, so you know where to go when you're ready for a change from hummus and falafel.
For the record, I think the Tel Aviv City Tour is one of the best ways to discover new restaurants.
April: HaKarga (HaKarga falafel restaurant) – 15 minutes from Jaffa Gate, next to a closed-down building. A bit out of the way, but well worth it for good food and atmosphere.
May: Al-Anon (specialty Lebanese dish restaurant) – A little off the beaten track, but worth finding for "the meat". There is another restaurant nearby called "Genesis", which serves very similar dishes and has a much better atmosphere. We often go there when we have visitors from abroad who are used to more sophisticated food...
June: Gomer (Café Nachum salad restaurant) – A quiet location, but an awesome menu and great atmosphere. I can recommend the Betzet (Israeli national dish: choice of four salads) and the Shaka steak, both with a special sauce that makes it retro. If you're in Tel Aviv at night, there's always a live DJ playing music on Friday and Saturday nights.
July: Hashgacha Pratit – A long-time favorite (they opened one year before me), which has the best Israeli specialities in a chilled out atmosphere. They only open until 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, so try to come either at lunch time or before.
September: Darna – For about a year now, Darna has been the best place in Tel Aviv for Arabic food. There are more expensive restaurants that offer a similar range of dishes and better atmosphere, but you won't get much better than here for the price. The service is good and fast and the menu is cosmopolitan – if you don't like chicken and lamb, there's still plenty to enjoy.
October: Shalva (vegetarian) – A fun place with a different theme every night and great food. The only downside is that it tends to get crowded, especially at weekends.
November: Ein Saba - An amazing vegetarian restaurant in Nahalat Binyamin. Extremely helpful staff, who will help you choose the right "menu" for you. It's less crowded than it used to be.
December: Vino – The best place for wine and a good meal during the winter season – book a table before going there in the evening: it's usually full of people coming to spend the evening inside, where you can choose several wines and go to sleep with a good bottle of wine in your stomach. They also have an amazing weekend brunch that makes their reputation as one of Tel Aviv's best restaurants confirmed.

Conclusion
Tel Aviv is home to a surprisingly high number of excellent restaurants, with many that stand out from the crowd. However, not everything will necessarily be on your tastes, so you have to keep on trying and discover new places as you go along.
When it comes to finding new places, I recommend trying one or two of the following weekly food tours: Tel Aviv-Jaffa (on Thursdays), Tel Aviv-Old City (on Fridays) and Tel Aviv Restaurants (on Saturdays). As they happen on different days of the week, you can go at any time of day or night and leave when you feel like it.
