An Introduction To Pallets &  Their Uses

A pallet is a flat and often rectangular platform used as a support for industrial objects. The term is derived from the word "panel", which can be defined as a simple rectangular piece of wood in construction. It is made of smaller pieces clamped together and covered with wood, metal, or other materials to make them more durable or resistant to damage. Besides being widely used in the lumber industry, they are also frequently employed in industries like packaging, construction and transportation.

Pallets are also referred to as skids. The main objective of these skids is to provide little shock or vibration to the items carried on them. They also inhibit dust, rust, and scratches on the items they carry. Pallets are usually constructed with engineered wood or particle board, but can also be made from plastic. At times they may comprise a steel frame topped with wood decking. Present day pallets are generally constructed of used materials like recycled plastics and scrap wood. A pallet could be reused many times before it gets deformed or damaged beyond repair and turns into a reject.

Pallets are used to store and transport many types of goods. The most common type is the retail pallet, which is used in the retail industry to store consumer products like clothing, shoes and toys. Other used items that may be stored on these pallets include packaged furniture, flooring materials and electronics. Retail pallets are usually rectangular in shape with four sides that measure approximately 90 cm x 128 cm (35 in x 52 in). These types of pallets can hold up to 3,200 pounds (1,500 kg) at a time.

Used for office storage and logistics, academic research and laboratory storage. Used for commercial storage applications, such as merchandise or freight. Used to support transportation and deliver goods within a facility. Used for agricultural production, consumer packaging and general industrial purposes. They are often used as a method of delivery for a specific product from the supplier to the retailer. They are also used in offices to store supplies, furniture and other items that may be needed at any time during the day or week.

Used in manufacturing plants and warehouses to keep large product containers upright while they are being transported or stacked on pallets. These pallets usually have four sides of rectangular proportions measuring 90 cm x 90 cm (35 in x 35 in). They may be smaller in size, in which case they are called half pallets. These small pallets are roughly half the size of a 90 cm x 128 cm (35 in x 52 in) rectangular-shaped retail pallet.

Used to safely move goods over long distances and in the international commerce industry. High cube containers are much larger than standard intermodal containers and measure between 8 and 12 feet in length, 6 feet in width and between 8 and 10 feet in height.

Due to their low cost, versatility and strength, pallets are frequently used as a marketing tool by corporations or businesses that want to promote their products or services. Companies that use pallets for marketing purposes include Sony, General Electric and Adidas. The companies use pallet graphics to create a marketing campaign that highlights their brand, product or service. These graphics are usually printed on the side of the pallet or on a sticker that is placed on either the rear surface or one of the pallets sides. Some common examples of these graphics include logos, company slogans and company names in different words written vertically and horizontally around the side of the pallet.

The number one reason why companies choose to use pallets as an advertising tool is because it gives them access to an unlimited supply potential. With this availability, they are able to send out thousands of pallets to major retail outlets, industrial parks and warehouses, creating a large amount of exposure for their products. Since most of the costs associated with production are already factored in, companies will only be spending a small amount of money on each pallet that they send out. This gives them the ability to reach many different people at once through several different advertising mediums including posters and signage displayed outside stores. Also available in some areas of Japan and Korea is the "pallet star", which is basically a giant advertisement printed on the side of a truck or a train. These stars can be easily and cheaply produced by cutting out letters from cardboard sheets or by using stencils. They can be seen on many streets in Tokyo, Japan. They have also been spotted in the South Korean city of Gwangju. Due to their low cost, large areas of graphics can be used to promote a product or brand. Usually, the more graphics that are used, the more expensive it is for the company buying into the advertising campaign. Companies can use pallets as a form of economic stimulus through advertising campaigns that focus on products or brands that consumers need at that certain moment in time.

Pallets are regularly being reused in construction as scaffolding, especially since they are already available in large numbers and having them reused will save money. They are also commonly used in other construction applications such as roofing, flooring and scaffolding, usually for the purpose of safety. The increase in construction and maintenance jobs has created the need for many new pallets. Since the average lifespan of a pallet is around 20 years, companies that produce pallets must have enough to meet the demands of their market. Pallets are an efficient way of transporting supplies because they can hold up to 9 times their own weight in weight, taking only half of the space as a single large box would need.

Pallets may also be used in medical environments such as lab tables, where they can be used to safely transport equipment and supplies around an area. These types of pallets are usually a much higher quality than the normal type used in the shipping industry. They must be able to withstand extremely high levels of wear and tear. These pallets usually feature closed sides, making them optimal for storage and keeping an area infection free.

Aesthetic wood pallets can be used as decorations or supports in furniture construction. They can also be used to build flooring, beds, walls and shelving. Pallet furniture is gaining popularity amongst many people because it uses items that would otherwise go to waste and works with the environment through recycling and reduction of packaging materials. People who choose to use this style for their furniture projects feel that this is more economically friendly than traditional furniture that comes from a store.

Conclusion:There are several advantages of using pallets for furniture projects. They have a low cost, can be recycled and can be used for many different things. However, there are also many disadvantages to these types of furniture projects. Although the amount of materials needed to make a project is reduced and less packaging is used, pallets do not last forever and their durability is often poor. Also, furniture that incorporates pallets for support can be very unstable because of its limited weight carrying capabilities. However this type of furniture can still be successful when found in the right location or if used as an accent piece rather than the main focus of a room.
