The Tickler Files was a member of the Global Agency Directory until The Clio Awards dropped them from their directory because of an ad they ran in "Fast Company's" April issue.
In October 2007, The Clio Awards announced that it had suspended The Tickler Files from its Global Agency Directory pending an investigation into a possible abuse of the awards system. This decision was made after receiving multiple complaints about ads produced for The Tickler Files by independent agencies in which ideas and concepts were submitted to other agencies for production via contests and competitions. An editorial feature about this controversy appeared in the February edition of Fast Company magazine.
In February 2008, the Clio Awards received more than 5,000 ballots cast by those referencing "The Tickler Files" as the primary reason they voted for an agency. The Clio Awards issued a statement admitting it had erred in dismissing The Tickler Files. The Tickler Files denied any wrongdoing and again demanded a full investigation by an outside party. In March 2008, the Clio Awards stated that it would not pursue any action against The Tickler Files unless further complaints were received. In April 2008, after receiving no further complaints regarding this matter, a statement was issued saying that "the situation with the awards has been resolved".
