We Are Not Mutts - The Critical Care Transport RN
As a critical care transport RN, I have found my work to be both rewarding and challenging. I have always been fascinated by the medical field, but that didn’t mean it was easy or without obstacles. Having worked in various positions from travel nurse to emergency room physician assistant I knew that getting into this career would require hard work and dedication.
It is tough being a nurse and working in such an intense field as critical care transport requires all your time, effort and passion for patients in need of lifesaving treatment. And then when you are done for the day, you must start all over again at your next shift. It is important to me to be the best nurse possible, so I’ve tried to learn as much as I can about critical care transport and critical care nursing in general.
I have found that the Careflight Critical Care Transport Program is the perfect way to learn what it takes to be a great critical care transport nurse. When I started my job, there were times when my confidence was challenged because of the strict protocols being enforced at this hospital setting. The course helped me develop an understanding of why certain procedures need to be followed and assured me that with good judgment and training, these protocols will allow me to deliver excellent patient care.
I have found the information in these books to be very useful in my daily hospital life and I refer to them often. In fact, they are an important part of my library. The information is practical and can be immediately applied to hospital life and patient care by critical care transport nurses like myself. I have also found the books extremely helpful when I am teaching other nurses how to do critical care transport nursing. I would definitely recommend these books for anyone interested in critical care transport nursing or any other healthcare field for that matter.
Genevieve De Beaumetz is a clinical instructor at the University of California San Francisco, where she teaches courses on critical care nursing and nurse led interventional radiology procedures. She is currently a clinical instructor at the University of California San Francisco where she mentors other nurses interested in a career in critical care transport.
Dr. De Beaumetz's first major role was as a Critical Care Transport RN on board the first ever air medical flight to Yosemite National Park.
Her most memorable moments are working alongside her co-authors, Diana Wilk and Dr. Paul Schoppe, as they try to solve the mystery of Nurse Bethany's death on board the flight for their chapter "Death By Flight".
