#2. How to Prepare Your Body for Fall Running: Tips from an Experienced Runner
October brings cooler temperatures and colorful leaves. While most of us are busy getting ready for the changes in season, there's one thing you can do to prepare yourself for fall running: Starting running training now!
If you're an avid runner and have already been training this fall, then this post is likely not for you. Keep on training and charging through the cold weather with stride.
However, if you haven't been a runner before this time of year and looking to get started, read on as I'll share a few tips that can help you get started right away.
When it comes to getting into shape for fall running, here's a quote from one of my favorite weight-loss authors: "It doesn't matter how much time has passed since your start date. If you're not running at least 30 minutes per day, you're not in shape. Period."
I give myself a 30 minute window when I'm getting ready to train for whatever new athletic endeavor I'm planning. For fall running, that's 15-20 miles per week spread out over the month of October and November.
This means that all three of my runs are planned on Sundays during the week and all three are scheduled for about 45 minutes. There will be a slight change in pace to account for the temperature change and not overdoing it during cold weather months.
I also have 'bonus' runs scheduled. These can be sort of a make up run if I'm feeling sluggish on a particular day or I just need that extra time on my feet.

#3. The Health Benefits of Bananas for Kidney Stones
Although bananas are the ideal flavor, what's good to eat when you're suffering from kidney stones? Are there any foods that increase your chances of passing kidney stones?
Gatorade is the standard drink of choice during athletic events because it replenishes electrolytes (sodium and potassium), which are crucial to our bodies' ability to hydrate and retain water. They also provide fuel for our muscles and help our bodies keep their blood pressure normal while we're restoring fluid.
If you've been suffering from kidney stones, then you have probably lost a lot of fluid, as well as electrolytes and other nutrients. In this case, you absolutely need to replenish your body's supply of electrolytes by drinking Gatorade.
However, if you are not an athlete then drinking Gatorade regularly is a bad idea. For one thing, it's high in sugar (in fact, it's higher in sugar than Coke), which means that too much of it can cause weight gain. It's also very high in sodium (more than half of the drinks have more than 1000 mg of sodium per serving), which is unhealthy for everyone, but especially for people who don't work out regularly.
Gatorade Alternatives
One of the best alternatives to Gatorade is coconut water. It contains most of the nutrients that kidney stone sufferers need, and it's actually good for you too! Coconut water is good for:
Replenishing lost electrolytes Soothing a sore throat or cough Heating up when you have a cold Relieving hangovers Replacing lost fluids after diarrhea or vomiting Treating heartburn Cleansing wounds and burns And more!
Chocolate milk comes in as a close second. Chocolate milk contains a lot of sugar, which can be problematic for kidney stone sufferers. However, it also contains lots of calcium and potassium, which are nutrients that your body needs after passing a kidney stone. And the best thing is that it tastes great!
The next best alternative to Gatorade is regular milk. Milk contains more protein than chocolate milk (8 grams per cup vs 1 gram), so if you're in need of protein then regular milk is the way to go. Milk is also higher in calcium than chocolate milk (326 mg per cup vs 272 mg). Because you're likely not getting enough calcium every day on top of your kidney stone treatment, you should drink lots of milk during this time.
Use your discretion when choosing other food during your kidney stone recovery period. Try to eat foods that are low in salt, sugar, and fat. It's also important to not drink too much water, as that can put extra pressure on your kidneys. For more information on what you should and shouldn't eat while passing kidney stones, click here .
#4. Why Everybody Should Take a Stand Against Bullying
Most people are familiar with the idea of bullying -- the mocking, tormenting, and harassment that takes place within schools among students or even adults in the workplace. But most people are not familiar with its true extent and how deeply it runs in our society today.
If you've ever been bullied, you know how cruel it can be. If you haven't been bullied but have heard about it, then you've probably decided that bullying is just a stupid idea. It's stupid to think that someone else's feelings can change because of what they do or say to another person. But sadly, bullying is in fact very real and has a very negative effect on its victims.
In addition to the physical reactions that some people develop after being bullied, there are also psychological reactions (including post-traumatic stress disorder) and even problems with their education. All of these things can cause lifelong impact on the person who was bullied and those around them.
In the past, people have thought that the best way to deal with bullying is to enforce laws against it. That's good -- after all, bullies are breaking the law -- but enforcing more laws won't really do anything to stop bullying. When something is considered a crime, then those who practice it will simply stop doing it in public. They'll still do it behind closed doors and claim victimization by their attackers when they're caught.
As a society, we need to take a stand against bullying and its effects on our kids and adults. This is something that all parents should be doing from the time that their children become aware of what is going on around them in their schools and neighborhoods.
#5. Why You Need to Know How to Talk Yourself into Something You Don't Want
If you've ever heard someone say that they didn't want a certain job, then you'll know what I'm talking about. This happens a lot when people are new to a job and/or they're asked to do things at work that they aren't comfortable doing. People won't want anything that isn't their idea, no matter how many people ask them.
How do you get yourself to do something you don't want? This is just one of the many ways that psychology can be detrimental and is something many people aren't aware of. But it's also an important skill for anyone who wants to succeed in life.
Conclusion
If you're one of the millions of people who suffer from kidney stones, then you should look into alternatives to Gatorade. These alternatives will provide your body with the nutrients it needs during recovery without significantly raising your blood pressure. And if you want to find out how to talk yourself into things that you don't want, one of the best things that you can do is take a psychology course at your local community college.
