Vipassana Meditation - What Is It And How Can It Help You?

Vipassana Meditation

What is Vipassana Meditation?
It is a form of Buddhist meditation that teaches you to focus on your thoughts and feelings to be aware of them. It can help you become more mindful, calm, and present. You may even find that Vipassana helps you overcome some emotional issues, too.
How can it help me?
Vipassana meditation can relieve anxiety, depression, addiction and insomnia. Additionally, it produces "amazing mental clarity," which allows people to be better able to deal with their problems as well as solve them more quickly than before.
Can I learn it?
Vipassana meditation is taught at ten-day intensive part-time courses, usually a week or two in duration. Vipassana meditation can also be done at home by following a step-by-step process. After about a year of practice, you will be able to meditate for longer periods of time.
What are the benefits?
Vipassana meditation can reduce your stress and self-criticism, while increasing your ability to pay attention and see new solutions to old problems. It has also improved the lives of many people who have tried it, easing their anxiety and depression as well as helping them deal with addiction or insomnia.
How do I learn it?
You can read a book on it or study with a teacher. Or, you can meditate on your own at home. There is also an online Vipassana course, which returns control to the learner.
How long does it take to be good at it?
It takes around three years to get any real benefit from Vipassana meditation, and about ten years for the full potential of the practice to become clear. With regular practice you will notice that you are becoming more aware of your thoughts, feelings and emotions, but some people still feel confused or skeptical about whether Vipassana really works. However, those who stick with it after ten days usually experience some relief from anxiety and depression.
How should I learn it?
You should start by studying the theory behind Vipassana meditation. You can then try performing this practice on your own without a teacher until you decide to commit to a ten-day intensive course. After that, a teacher will supervise your development for three years until you are ready to be independent in your practice. Many people who have been taught by teachers say that they have learned far more than they would have done on their own at home.
How do I learn more about it?
The Vipassana meditation site, vipassana.com , is an excellent resource for information. You can also read the book "The Art of Living" by S.N. Goenka, the man who brought Vipassana to the West from India before starting his own retreat center in America.
As you can see, Vipassana meditation is an effective way to ease your everyday stress and get a better handle on some emotional issues that are holding you back in life. Yet, being able to learn it is just one part of your first step towards mastering this practice so that you can start enjoying its benefits yourself as soon as possible. So, what's next?
