The Purpose Of Suffering
If you're reading this blog post, chances are that you're currently in a tough time. You might be struggling with something like substance abuse or maybe the death of a loved one. Whatever it is, it sucks and if you don't already know how to deal with it then this blog post may help! It's all about how to cope with suffering and I'll be covering topics like accepting your reality, coping with loss, moving past negative emotions and finding peace in the present moment.
I want to make it clear that my goal for this blog post is not to 'fix' you, but rather to help you understand yourself and how you can cope better with suffering. My goal is to help you get through a tough time in your life and come out the other side as a better person. I know that none of us have perfect lives, so if there's anything I can do to help you then please do let me know! There are no solutions here, just tools to help cope with suffering.
I hate pain very much. It's useless; it hurts me all the time, in every way imaginable, yet no matter what I do I'll still be hurt. – Joan of Arc
Introduction – Accept Your Reality
If you've been struggling for a long time then it's likely that you've already tried to deal with it in some way or another, so why are you still struggling? The first thing you need to do is accept your reality. If things are the way they are, then there's nothing more you can do about it and that's the truth. So instead of complaining about how your life sucks and all the problems you have, learn to accept them as facts and move on. There's nothing you can do about them at this point, so why bother complaining?
For example, if you lost your job then accept that it happened and then focus on finding a solution instead of complaining because you lost your job. Something like 'my boss was a jerk!' isn't going to help anyone, we need to look forward and focus on solutions. Whenever something bad happens in life, just accept it and move on. Use this time to learn from it rather than remain stuck in the past. That way you won't worry about what already happened and can focus on the future instead.
It's easy to complain. It's much harder to be the person everyone else goes to when they have a problem. – Dan Pearce
If you're feeling overwhelmed then ask yourself 'what is causing me the most pain right now?' Then deal with that issue and move on to the next one. Don't worry about all of your problems at once, just take it one step at a time and deal with each issue individually. As long as you take action, then everything will fall into place eventually and things will start to get better for you. That is how things work, so don't try to fix everything in your life overnight. All you need to do is keep taking action.
Your problem isn't that your life sucks, it's that you don't know how to make it suck better. – Jen Sincero
When I was in Finland last summer I got a big promotion at my company. It was supposed to be a big deal, but for some reason things went south very quickly and I ended up getting fired from my job. I just wish things would have turned out differently than they did because I had it all planned out and everything was going great! So when this happened many people were very supportive of my decision to leave, despite the fact that it wasn't easy for me to do. Some people even said things like 'you can't blame yourself for this', so I really appreciated their words of encouragement. People always say that you should look at the bigger picture, but that's hard to do when we're all worrying about our own lives. Sure, everyone has their own personal problems to deal with, but now I'm back in the U.S. and still trying to find a new job and it's not going so well at all!
Sometimes it's hard for me to get out of bed in the morning because I miss my old job so much. I've been there 12 years and it was such a good place for me. I'll never forget all the amazing people who have helped me along the way, but I've also learned that it's time to put my life in my own hands and stop relying on others. I have to try and do better next time and make sure that big things don't happen to me again.
I've come to realize that I can't control everything and if things go wrong then there isn't much I can do about it. Instead of letting my emotions control my life, I need to learn how to stay calm, remain level headed and take action when a situation presents itself. This is the lesson I've learned from the experience and now I'd like to share it with you:
Everything happens for a reason. Get over it. – Unknown
We have no control over what happens in life, but we do have control of how we respond to it. Instead of getting angry because you can't change things, learn to accept your reality and focus on finding solutions instead. It's easy to sit around and moan about how much you hate something, but it's a lot more challenging to find a way out of your situation when you're in an emotional state. When something bad happens in life we can either choose to accept our reality or continue complaining about it. It's not healthy to complain about the small things in life, because the big things will always remain a mystery.
We can't change what already happened and we can't change the future, so why are we wasting our time thinking about it in the present? This is why I suggest moving on to something new and accepting your life as-is. Instead of complaining about how you're stuck in your life right now, learn to accept what happened and then focus on positive changes that you can make in the future. Your reaction to a situation is up to you and there's no need to get depressed or upset if you don't want to.
Learn to stop overthinking situations and start acting instead.
Conclusion:
We can't control all of our emotions, but we can learn how to manage the ones that are holding us back. Learning how to deal with difficult situations instead of complaining about them is the key to a better life. When we can master this skill and learn to be more relaxed in situations where we feel overwhelmed, then we'll experience great life improvements that will last a lifetime. Instead of complaining about all of your problems currently in life, look at what you're doing wrong and then focus on making changes to improve your situation.
