"As an aspiring leader, it is absolutely crucial for you to understand how the most successful leaders are made. The difference between a boss and a leader lies in their ability to motivate and inspire others. Leadership training can help you transform into the type of leader who people want to follow. You can become more skilled at collaboration, team-building, communication, and delegation."
##What's your favorite band or song?
My favorite song is "High Hopes" by Panic! At The Disco! My favorite band would have to be Fall Out Boy because they make catchy music that I can relate to. I'm a huge fan of pop music in general. I'm into bands like Maroon 5, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars. Recently I've been getting more into heavy metal. My absolute favorite song is "Mudvayne" by Mudvayne because they're one of my favorite bands and great musicians!
##How did you get started in the music industry?
I had never really sung before starting this band. I joined the band when we had just begun forming the original demo back in Spring of 2005. I was singing after a few months because my friend was having a hard time being in the band and with his schoolwork. I knew how to play guitar already, so he helped me learn some of the parts. Soon after, I took on lead vocals. We were conceptualizing a new sound for the band that never really ended up working for us, so we decided to change all of our material and start writing again from scratch. We wanted our music to be more aggressive and so we changed all of our material. This is when we started getting more into pop-punk because that was what we liked listening to at the time. From then on, I was the only person in the band that played guitar because I wanted to concentrate on singing.
##What leadership skills have you learned from?
I've only been working at my job for about a year, but being a leader has come with it. I've learned that being a leader is like playing many different roles at once. One day you're trying to get everyone on board with a particular idea and another day you need to be the one to convince everyone of your idea. You also have to be able to listen and make suggestions when others are talking and not just listen but actually use what they say or make a suggestion based off of their conversation instead of cutting in and saying something forcefully without listening first.
##What are some effective ways to improve your leadership skills?
When leading a team, you need to be able to listen to what everyone else has to say. You also need to give people room in which they can express how they feel about something whether it's the meeting you called or just talking about your latest song idea. When we talk about our latest songs and new material, we all talk about what we think is important and what worked from the previous song. This is how we come up with our newest ideas and make sure that everyone's opinion matters. When someone says something that might not be as good of an idea as others, it doesn't matter because everyone should still have a voice on the team.
##How did you become a good leader?
I've learned not to be too impatient when others are talking. I need to wait for other members' opinions before speaking up and trying to say something that will make them disagree with what they're saying. If I cut them off and tell them how I think about it, then it just ends up turning into a debate where no one is happy with the result. This typically leads to someone getting frustrated about their opinion not being heard, and then we won't want to collaborate with each other anymore. As a leader, you need everyone on your side so that everyone is happy working together and will try as hard as they can at achieving the goals that they have set for themselves individually.
