Leadership: Is Mentoring For You?

Mentoring is a form of leadership that typically occurs when a more experienced or higher-level leader takes on the task of guiding and teaching an individual who has less experience or knowledge. The mentor will provide guidance and instruction as well as serve as a role model for their mentee. The benefits are primarily centered around personal growth, development, and achievement for both parties involved. ˆ

If you've ever been interested in becoming more successful in your career, mentoring could be just what you're looking for! Here at Know Your Place we know how difficult it is to find ways to help yourself grow within your current position (or even thought about taking on more responsibilities). ˆ

It's a bit of a catch-22 for the modern employee. On one hand, you want to be enthusiastic about your current position and learn all you can, but on the other you're afraid of being seen as someone who doesn't know what they're doing or is looking to move onto greener pastures. ˆ

What if I told you there was a way to fix that? ˆ

You see, mentoring isn't just reserved for top level executives in their thirties and forties (although that is where it typically starts). ˆ

Mentoring doesn't just help the mentor or mentee – it helps both parties! Mentoring can help you be a better leader and help you grow as a professional. ˆ

If you love what you do but want to continue in the same position forever, don't let your boss squash that ambition. ˆ

If you're being told to take on more responsibility but aren't sure where to start or how to organize your ideas, have someone take a look at your plan and offer feedback. This person may come from a different department or background than yours, but they can make the process more effective for everyone involved. ˆ

Need some help getting the ball rolling on a new project? ˆ
