Employees - Money Is Not The Only Inspiration

Money can motivate people to do amazing things, but money is not the only inspiration. Companies today are finding that more employees are leaving due to the lack of motivation and the rising cost of living and they don't want this trend to continue. In order to solve this problem, companies need inspiration in their employees first before they can provide more financial compensation. So what might motivate an employee?

-Time off! Monday - Friday work days with no weekends means that people can go home on Saturday or Sunday as soon as they please instead of working without rest just so others will be able to enjoy themselves on weekends.

- Free time means that people can spend time with their family instead of being away all hours, doing work. Free time also means that people can be free to do activities that they may enjoy doing. They have all of the free time in the world but they still have to work. It is not a good feel or an enjoyable feeling.

- Better wages! When someone starts to work, they have to start at the lowest wage and climb up a pay scale until they reach the top wage level which may take 2 years or more. Wages are based on how well one performs and how much one learns so don't be surprised if you leave your job as others begin to surpass you in skills and knowledge.

- Decent working conditions. I do not mean, "we're short on money, but we're doing the best we can" kind of circumstances. This is work that is being done out of necessity and really isn't being done well because of the lack of motivation, skills or knowledge. It takes a lot out of an employee physically and mentally as well so give employees better working conditions.

- A chance to make a difference. Not only does this mean that employees will be more motivated, but it also means that they will be able to use their experience to benefit others and will help others by sharing knowledge and skills with them too.

- A chance to make a difference in some other area of their lives. Are your employees happy? If not you aren't providing them with the right kind of benefits. So stop thinking about finances and start thinking about what really motivates individuals to work for you or for any company.

Happy Employees Are Hard To Find!
Companies are busy trying hard to find good employees, but they should instead be looking for people who are going to stay with them a very long time, who are happy to be there and who want more than just money.

- Thinking outside of the box. Think about companies who are at the top of their industries. Many of them are new and are doing things completely different than anyone else. In order for businesses to grow, people must be motivated and encouraged to take chances on new methods and ideas so that they can be successful in the future.

- Teamwork! This includes all members of the team from employees to executives, managers, etc. People must learn how to work together as a team and not just be individuals working in isolation from others who may also be trying to achieve their goals in life.

- Doing something for more than money! There is a saying that "Money can't buy happiness. It can buy a good car in which to drive away from your problems, but it can't fix them." If this statement is true, then why are businesses constantly trying to buy money when the real problem is that they don't have happy employees?

- A bright future. This brings into play the point about taking chances and encouraging others to do the same. If employees know for a fact that there is nowhere for them at this company, then why should they want to be there? There are many other companies out there who would love to have them! Let's not forget that it takes two people working together in order for a company or company department to succeed.

- Motivation. What can motivate an employee? -Money?

-Time off!

-Free time!

-Wages increased.

-Decent working conditions. (worse conditions are not worth it! - see above)

-A chance to make a difference... especially in the area of feeling fulfilled and happy in life. Are there no other things that you can do to make an employee happy? Or is there something that you can do or introduce them to which will help them at work and in their personal lives as well.

- A chance to make a difference in some other area of their lives.

Conclusion: Happiness is something that has to come from within, if you want your employees to be happy then you must find out what it is that really motivates them and how they feel about the company that they work for. Then you can make a good decision on whether this will be the right place for them to stay or if they would be better off somewhere else.
