A World of Infinite Opportunities
Do you have an idea that you would really love to get off the ground but don't know how? Or do you not know where to begin your next adventure?
This post will show you some of the best places to find opportunities and help ease the process of getting started on those next adventures.
People are constantly asking for advice on how to start their own business and make a living doing what they love. Now there must be thousands upon thousands of different websites, blogs, apps, books, lectures, classes and people out there all sharing their advice on making it work. What makes me different from all the others? The thing that I don't understand is why so many of these people making the same exact claims about how to make it work get it completely wrong. I have been asked by countless people for my advice, and many times I have been asked to sign their guestbook or send them an email address where they can get more information. The thing is, despite all of their advice, I still see people struggling to find success in their businesses. It makes me wonder if they are giving out the wrong information.
There have been many times when I have thought of starting a business or venture myself, but never really had the time to do it. As a full time student and employee, there just is not enough time to get it all done. But this is certainly not an excuse because others make it work despite the same conditions. So why hasn't it worked out for me? Well, I can't really say that there was anything specific that stopped me from starting my own thing. In fact, I have had a lot of ideas and plans come up, but each time that I get going on something, something else stops me and I end up putting it off until later. Why is this? I have an idea, but nothing happens.
In my opinion, part of the reason for this is that many people give out really bad advice about what it takes to get started and make it work. I know that there are certainly a lot of people out there who have made it work in many parts of the world and especially in Asia, but all of them seem to be giving out the same exact advice that doesn't actually work. To make things even better, most of the advice that makes it work is often not very specific and a lot of people will tell you the same thing. It's just like the case of those people who have been blogging about "working from home" for years and years. They are finally making it work but they would really rather tell you how to do it instead of what actually works. Am I being too harsh? Maybe, but this is just my experience with so many other people sharing their misleading advice all over the internet.
So what is the purpose of this post? I wanted to create something that could help others in my situation so that I wouldn't have to comb through all these blog posts and forums offering useless information. Below is a list of the best places to find opportunities and to help you out with getting started on those next adventures.
Before we get started, I wanted to share a little about my background because why would I make this list if I don't have any legit experience with this stuff? While this is not a complete background, I will tell you enough that you might want to pause and think twice before taking advice from others.
First of all, if you are reading this then there is a good chance that you are familiar with some of the more well-known platforms for freelancers like oDesk and Elance. I used to hang around these sites for a couple of years back when I was in college, and that is when I got interested in learning more about freelancing and making money online. So one day, I decided to just sign up on oDesk and Elance to see what they were like.
I actually ended up getting a lot of jobs and working with some really great clients during those few years. My first job through Elance was a $100/hour job which was obviously super exciting for someone who had never made more than $10/hour doing something. My first freelance project through oDesk was a web design job that paid me $15/hour. The point is that I have experience working with both oDesk and Elance, and these were some of my first real jobs in my field of freelancing. I got great experiences and got to learn so much about the industry.
At this time, oDesk was doing a lot of business with outsource companies in Asia. This was actually around the time when Indonesia was becoming one of the most popular outsourcing centers in the world. You can see a steady flow of expatriates leaving their homes and setting up shop there because they could make more money on a startup salary than what they could get working for another large corporation back home.
So, at this point there were already a couple of large outsourcing companies already up and running in Indonesia. One was a company called PI Outsourcing, and they were actually the company that I worked with back when I was making $15/hour on oDesk. They also had offices in India and Bangladesh as well. In fact, outsourcing companies like these were the main source of work for oDesk at this time.
Now you might be wondering why I am giving you all of this information about outsourcing companies...well, it is because I am about to reveal something very important. Both the owners and employees of these outsourcing companies are some of the most successful people that you will ever meet online.
You see, the problem that I had in my life was that I just couldn't get them to do what I want them to do. The first difficult experience that I had with these companies was when they decided to get into the personal development business and start selling coaching services. After complaining a lot on oDesk and Elance, they finally agreed to refund my money because they could not afford to handle all of the complaints.
This is not an isolated experience...I have met a few other people through freelancing who have had problems with some of these companies as well. Because of this, they are willing to share their experiences with other people who want to try and make it big in the industry. Some of these people have found success and others have not. But one thing is for sure, those who succeed know that you can't give up, and you have to learn how to deal with these companies.
So what is this secret that I am talking about? Well, it's not really a secret because I just mentioned a few of the companies above, but what I am going to reveal is actually my personal story about them (well...my experience with them). The reason why they are so successful is because they are all very driven people who want something more than just an average life and great material possessions...
Conclusion:
I consider myself very lucky because I was able to learn from the best in this industry. If you are passionate about making it big as a freelancer, then you should definitely look into finding out more about these outsourcing companies. They have unlimited resources and they will support you every step of the way. In addition, they have access to the best opportunities that you could ever find online.
If outsourcing companies seem like something that is not for you, then please continue reading below because I have listed some other great places and opportunities below as well...
The best advice that I can give anyone who wants to start freelancing or working online is to sign up to oDesk and Elance and start getting jobs right away...
