A Short Guide to Stop Smoking

The concern around the effects of smoking are well-known, and it's easy to see why some people would make an effort to quit. After all, it is important to improve one's overall health. However, quitting can be a difficult process, so a guide can help make the process easier for those who are looking for a few things that they might not have noticed on their own: If you don't stop smoking abruptly and cold turkey, chances are you're going to get a nicotine withdrawal.

It's important not just in terms of your physical health but also your mental health when trying to quit at this rapid rate. The symptoms of nicotine withdrawal can last for several weeks or even months, and they include depression, fatigue, and irritability. The good news is that these withdrawal symptoms will eventually fade away, but it can still be a difficult experience.

Aside from this difficulty in quitting smoking, there's another factor to consider; nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). A lot of people believe that NRT is a safer option when trying to quit smoking because it doesn't produce the same effects on blood pressure and heart rate as tobacco cigarettes do. However, studies have shown that NRT is just as dangerous to health as regular cigarette smoking.

There are also the dangers of second-hand smoke. A lot of smokers who quit smoking will still unknowingly start smoking again because of their friends or family members. Second-hand smoke can cause a lot of harm to people who aren't even directly exposed to it, and this is doubly important if they smoke while pregnant.

So how do you go about quitting smoking? If you've tried NRT and you're still unable to quit, then you might want to consider an alternative option; cold turkey that is. There is no need for any sort of medication, nicotine patch or gum for this method; it's much easier than a friend had suggested.

There are a few steps to follow. The first thing you should do is to quit smoking for a week. This will give your body and mind time to adjust, and allow the withdrawal symptoms to slowly fade away. Once you've successfully made it through this first week, you can start trying again. Simply buy a pack of cigarettes and tear off one piece of the packaging paper and keep it aside. Take one step further and put that piece on your mouth, then put out the cigarette immediately afterwards on the same piece of paper (it should be dry) in order to create your own nicotine patch.

This will help you overcome any potential relapse issues. Most of the time, the difficulty of quitting smoking is just the nicotine withdrawal, so if you experience a relapse and you're able to endure it, then it must be proof enough that you can continue your journey towards being smoke-free.
