Tips for an excellent book page layout that get noticed

If you want to sell your book, you will need a cover that stands out. Unfortunately, many writers and artists are not designers. You may not know how to choose the right fonts, color scheme or style for your book page layout but you can learn. Use the following tips to create a beautiful design that is sure to get noticed!

1) Do some research on what makes an eye-catching cover. Study which fonts tend to draw attention and see what works best in your genre of fiction or non-fiction.
2) Pick a color scheme that is easy on the eye and corresponds with your content.
3) Use a photo of your book or one that is similar in setting and theme.

4) Add a title on the top of your page that is either more eye catching than the cover or is flat out catchy.
5) Put an image on the front page that relates to your book and is unique.
6) Think about what makes your book unique. Do you have an interesting story? Do you have a style that stands out from other books? Then make sure it shows on the cover! Or, if it's not as important as content and story make sure readers know about it.

7) Make sure the font, design and layout on your back cover are just as appealing as the front. You don't want someone to look at your book, love the front page and then be disappointed when they flip it over.
8) Make sure your title is large and easy to read on the spine. People will look at that more than your cover when they scan a bookshelf so make sure it's an easy to read and memorable title.
9) Make sure that the font and design are clear and easy to read.
10) Use a strong call to action for the back cover. Ask them to buy your book or find out why your story is unique!
11) You can add a blurb about how great your story is to make it look even better.
12) Introduce the storyline and characters in your back cover blurb so people know who you are and what they're getting into before they buy or borrow your book!
13) If you have an illustration, make it an important part of the page by adding it somewhere on the front page.
14) Make sure your book cover is in proportion to the size of your book. If you're writing a short story, don't make it look like a book that took two years!
15) Make sure the whole layout of your page is appealing and follows the same theme as your cover.
16) Use a professional designer if you can't do it yourself or if you're not happy with what you end up with. Don't settle for anything less than perfection!
