In this article, I will be talking about how to promote relationships with the public. This means how to get more people involved in your affiliate program and how to get them making commission for you.

There are three major ways that affiliates can make money. One being from buying goods from the merchant themselves, second being from displaying links on their website, and third being from referring people as customers through their product or service. As far as promotion is concerned there are two main methods that affiliates use; direct marketing and indirect marketing which I will explain below.

Direct Marketing

Direct marketing is where affiliates spend time talking with customers directly, either in person or by phone. By talking with customers, this allows the affiliate to get to know them and see what they like. Then the affiliates can go out and purchase good from the merchant themselves. Direct marketing is important because it will help you find out who your potential customers are and how much of their income they are willing to spend. If you find someone who spends a lot of money on your site then you can just fill up on their budget and make commission off of their purchases. A downfall to direct marketing is that you may miss out on potential customers. If someone wants something but is not willing to spend a good amount of money on it, but is just looking for something cheap and doesn't really care about the product at all then you will miss out on them altogether. If a customer won't give you their money then why would they be a good customer? Always remember that if someone isn't ready to spend their money on your site, they'll never give you a dime.

Indirect Marketing

Indirect marketing is where affiliates display links and banners around the web so that people can click on them and become customers. A lot of times the customers will make a purchase but the affiliate doesn't know if they were influenced to do so from that banner or not. The reason why indirect marketing is important is because it's free. If you want to get a lot of traffic to your site then it'll be hard for you to do so if you're spending all your time talking with people directly yourself. A downfall to indirect marketing is that your customer could have been influenced by something else and not that banner at all. Maybe he went on a website before yours and saw something there, then came over to yours and made his purchase, even though you had nothing to do with it. Still, getting more traffic on your site can only benefit you.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is where affiliates spend a good amount of money on buying products and placing the links around the web. This method is great because it can get you a lot of traffic to your site. The customer could have been browsing their favorite website when they happened upon your affiliate link and clicked on it, then after that click made their purchase from your site and then bought more from you. This can be a risky concept because if you don't place an affiliate link on your site then what kind of traffic do you have? There are many affiliate networks out there, so finding one that has the best terms for you may be difficult.

Relationship with the public is very important for an affiliate especially if you're not getting a lot of traffic to your site. The more customers that you have the more money you can make. Always remember that if your website is growing slowly then its best to look into methods of getting more customers. You may end up losing money if you're not getting enough sales, so always try to grow and expand your business.
