*NOTE: This tutor is not my direct supervisor, but I have worked with her extensively over the past six months and she is well-known and respected across our department.
I've been working with this tutor for over 6 months now, and am very happy working with her. I cannot stress enough how warm and open-minded she is about working with different personalities. In the coming weeks, I will provide you with the direct contact information for her, in case you want to reach out to her.
( Every Tuesday and Friday at 7PM EST)
This tutor has been a great asset to me, despite being new to tutoring. She's more than happy to alternate between having a one on one session and sharing a lesson with my class as well. The cost is $150/hour (or 2 hour blocks). Due to her schedule we are able to assign a slot that works for both of us.
( Every Thursday at 7PM EST)
As a senior in student affairs, I have had the invaluable opportunity to work with him on several projects. He is fairly new to tutoring, but has already established a hugely positive reputation among the staff members in his department. Again, because he is so new he was flexible about meeting times and was more than happy to adjust for me if I had any conflicts with my schedule. The cost is $100/hour.
I also reached out to other faculty members and department directors who were more than willing to share their contact information as well. If you would like that list, please let me know via email: samantha@princetonreview.com .
Also, I'm not sure if you're looking for a specific tutor, but I had a really great time working with this tutor and highly recommend him! He's a bit more expensive at $200 per hour, but he is very experienced and we had a great time collaborating. You can reach out to him by emailing him at: james@resourcelibrary.com
I've been tutoring this tutor for over 2 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed working with her. From my perspective she is an extremely sweet honest caring person who genuinely wants to help people grow academically. She's very open to discussing our sessions and doing anything that would improve the learning experience. She is very flexible with meeting times and has been more than willing to meet off campus if that was easier for me. The cost is $120/hour (or 2 hour blocks).
Hi Samantha,
-Thanks again for arranging yesterday's phone call. I'm glad we were able to talk. I'm sure you have enough information from my notes so here is my two cents:
-At present, we spend most of the time going over slides of a course or lecture the student has recently attended and asking questions about it. I think the best way to improve this would be if we simply watched a lecture online or maybe even in class. Then, I could make notes on the parts that are difficult and would require further discussion.
-I told my students to send me an email with their schedule and let me know what days and times work for them. I can then pick the best time for them. This will also help me become more flexible and not make them wait if we need to talk about something urgent.
-I have had good experiences with Skype (perhaps not so much on mobile) so I would definitely be open to using it as long as the students are comfortable too.
-For feedback, I always give students a hard copy of the lesson and review it with them at their appointment. I also provide them with specific improvement strategies for the problematic areas based on my assessment at the end of the semester. In addition, since this is tutoring, and not a class, I try to guide students towards discovery by themselves so that they can internalize and use what they learn in the future. This has worked quite well in my experience.
-As far as subjects go, I am very knowledgeable on English language skills but have little background in specific classes or subjects such as math or social science. So, most of my teaching is based on what I have experienced and gathered from friends, colleagues and students. I am willing to see about additional tutoring for these subjects in the future but do not think that I have the qualifications to actually be a tutor for these areas.
I picked up two lessons per month from this tutor. While she was slightly more expensive than the other tutors at $150 per month, she was extremely committed to providing good service and making sure that her client is always satisfied with her lessons (for example, she listened and offered feedback immediately after each lesson). Also, unlike one of the other tutors ($150), the cost was $150 per hour.
I picked up three lessons per week from this tutor. The cost is pretty standard at $100 per hour (or 2 hour blocks). This tutor is very flexible with her schedule and was able to accommodate my different meeting times in a short time span.
The cost is $60/hour (or 30 minute blocks) and the location can be flexible. I have worked with this tutor numerous times over the past few years, both for written and verbal assignments. He has been able to accommodate my last minute requests when my schedule changed without any trouble at all. He checks in before each session, asks relevant questions to make sure that he has answered any questions that I may have had, and gives me relevant feedback after each one. He creates customized "homework" for each session and ensures that I am well prepared for whatever writing or speaking event is coming up. He also has his own extensive resources to help with spoken assignments if that is what you are looking for.
Also, I've really enjoyed working with this tutor! She used to be a Princeton Review instructor and a tutor here at Princeton so she has the in-depth knowledge of our curriculum and how we teach it. She also uses many of the same teaching methods that we do (example: she taught me how to compose an essay as if I was telling a story). Also, she offers her services at $100/hour (or 2 hour blocks), which is pretty standard among tutors on campus.
Conclusion:
I have met several other tutors over the course of my time here, but none have been as knowledgeable about the Tutoring Center, its policies and procedures, or even Princeton Review tutoring itself as Kelly. From my perspective, she is an incredibly skilled tutor who was able to give me relevant feedback throughout our conversations. Her lessons always took less time than her anticipated time and she was also able to answer all of my questions in a timely manner.
